Pine Grove kicked off its inaugural recovery support program, Days of Hope. Twenty-six alumni returned from as far away as Mexico to receive and give hope to the current patients of Gentle Path, The Women’s Center, Next Step and Legacy. Pine Grove’s Alumni Coordinator, Carver Brown, brought the alumni and the patients together for a “recovery pep rally” at the YMCA to kick-off the two day event. We laughed, cried and prepared ourselves for the events ahead. The alumni then returned to their programs to experience therapeutic exercises with Mimi and Celeste, the REACH ropes course, Yoga, groups and Q&A sessions with the patients. We believe the comments from the alumni speak for themselves about how powerful the experience was:
Did you find the experience helpful?
“Yes, it was invigorating and inspiring.”
“Yes, it was well planned and beneficial.”
What part did you enjoy the most?
“Hearing positive feedback from the patients stating they got something out of our stories.”
“Being able to hear other alumni’s recovery struggles and achievements.”
“Returning and seeing how much I have grown since I left.”
What are the most important things you learned at Days of Hope?
“Service is important for my recovery.”
“Hearing other’s struggles, and realizing mine are not so different.”
“You can always come ‘HOME’ to Pine Grove.”
“Others share the same struggles with reentry into relationships.”
“I am grateful to recovery and God for how far I have come.”
“My experience helps others.”
